Batch chromatography: a single column fed a sequence of operation steps — inject, then elute, then wash — with the outlet composition traced over time. Components separate because the more strongly adsorbed one moves down the column more slowly, so it leaves later. For continuous separation of the same mixture see the SMB and TMB simulators.
The injection has to be narrower than the gap between two peaks, or they elute together however good the column is — the panel shows that gap and refuses a run that cannot resolve.
